why disc golf?
While the answer should be obvious, for some reason it simply isn't. Kids today are susceptible to influences from a great many sources, and almost as many of those sources are negative, or in some way harmful to the health and well-being of the student. It can easily be argued that the biggest influence on a child's time and mental state is their "phone" - which has become so much more than a tool with which to speak to someone. Phones are status symbols. Phones are marketing tools. And phones are remote controls. It doesn't take long, sitting in front of North Little Rock High School after the final bell to see students walking to the parking lot looking down at the tiny screen in their hands. They look at them in their cars, in their living rooms, at the dinner table, and even in the shower. We have an epidemic - literally - in our hands.
Teens who aren't involved in scholastic sports or other clubs which provide healthy, alternative forms of recreation are largely consumed by mobile devices. So then comes the question: how do we get them off their phones and out getting exercise and practical healthy socialization with their peers that doesn't involve likes, shares, retweets, and other harmful feedback loops?
disc golf is the answer.
